summary of thought of C.S. Lewis

For the Ancients: It is the most complete and happiest among the affections. It is a school of virtue. Friendship is born for common interests, by affinity. He is not jealous, two friends are happy if a third is added to them. It is similar to Heaven where every Saint increases the enjoyment that each one has of God. In true friendship, love is healthy. A true friend can highlight what we are most wise, funny, and beautiful. Love for friends is free of jealousy, pretensions, is the most similar to the love of angels. Making a favor to a friend is not an effort. Friendship seems to raise man to the level of angels. While eros love seeks exclusivity, friendship is pleased to grow in number. Every friend can highlight a different aspect of us, so it is an irreplaceable richness.
